6/24/2009 : NHDP Chair Applauds Governor, Democratic Legislators for Budget Agreement
New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley today released the following statement regarding the successful passage of the state budget: "With the need for services at their highest and state revenues at the lowest levels since 2004, delivering a responsible and balanced budget is no easy feat. Governor Lynch and Democratic legislators rose to the challenge and passed a balanced budget that included deep cuts and reforms, protected the state’s most vulnerable from the effects of this economic crisis and kept the overall increase at less than 1%. "Despite the efforts of Republican legislators to delay the process, Democratic leaders were successful in passing an on-time balanced budget. If Republicans had succeeded in putting our state finances in limbo, they would have single handily cost taxpayers an addition $45 million dollars just to keep our state operating. "Republicans have made it clear that they’d rather play politics with state finances then do the work they were sent to Concord to do. In the future, I hope Republicans will spend less time reaching for headlines and more time working with Democratic leaders to find solutions to the problems facing our state. "I applaud the work of Governor Lynch and Democratic legislators to balance the state budget in the face of a major revenue shortfall."
