8/8/2009 : Rep. Smith Calls for Responsible Debate on Budget Issues
Rep. Marjorie Smith (Durham), chair of the House Finance Committee, says Fosters Daily Democrat - and implicitly other critics - should work with legislators, Gov. Lynch and local officials to "find a better way" to solve the economic problems we face. Rather than simply criticize, Smith writes, critics should offer solutions and make choices - as elected official have to do.

Smith writes, "Don’t your readers deserve to know your constructive suggestions? It is easy to write one day that we should be giving more money to cities and towns and another day that we should cut spending. It is harder to make the difficult decisions."

As Finance Committee chair, Rep. Smith is one of those who makes difficult decisions. You can let your representatives know your views on critical issues by clicking on the Elected Officials tab at the top of the page.
